Question for you cur owners:
What breed do you have and what do you like about it? Also, where did you get it? I am thinking of getting one soon and it is looking like I would have to drive south to get a good dog.

I have a Kemmer mtn cur really like the way they hunt. My dog is always pretty close unless he is running a track. And by close I mean I can see him most times. Makes it really nice on the nights when you just want to go out for a quick hunt not to have to chase him across the countryside. There are some good ones in New York. Going to have a hunt on April 27 in Waterloo there will probably be a few pups there for sale there was last year.

So how do you go about finding a good pup? I am a total newbie when it comes to this stuff. I want a dog that comes from top notch stock. How do I know when I buy?
ALso, where can I find more info on that Waterloo hunt? Is it a competition?

im no pro at this either but usually when pickin a pup its a 50/50 draw....if you can hunt with the sire and dam before purchasing to see there hunt style, mouth, tracking ability, nose etc etc its always nice... do some research and see who has what and even look into references on the dogs...
If your goin to buy one thats already trained or well started id deffinatly recommend hunting the dog alone a few times before buying...make sure its doin what the seller says...
im sure mr flatiron would give ya some tips as to where to find a good one... he owns some real nice dogs... hope this helps

I have seen some breeders online offer a guarantee. If you are not happy in x number of months you can return the dog. Is this sort of thing legit or are they full of b.s.?

There is no guarantee when it comes to dogs one thing I am noticing with the cuts is there is a high percentage of them that turn into good dogs. Most important thing is putting them in the woods if u do that lots of times they will teach themselves.
