Turkey season is coming soon and my twin boys cant wait. I hope it stays cold for a while because last year most of the hens were bread by the time the season started. Anyone going?

The hens being bred early can actually help your hunting early in the season because the gobblers are lonely but things slow down fast after that. I think NY opens it's turkey season too late. By the last week in May most gobblers are already in their bachlor flocks and very tough to call. You have to hunt them deer style. I would love to see them open the NY season at least a week earlier. I've hunt turkeys in 12 different states now but I still can't beat the booming gobble of a NY eastern longbeard approaching your calls through the hardwoods! Don't move!!!!!

Thanks catman4. Well i drove past one of my hunting spots yesterday and saw about 30 turkeys. Four of them were long beards. This cold weather and snow has realy held them back. Its going to be a great season this year. I figure another week and they should start splitting up into smaller groups.

Andyt, You need to double that ammo stock for yourself. NY lets you take two toms in the spring! Can't take both birds on the same day so you will have time to buy another shell after you use the one you got. Heck, if your down in my neck of the woods, I'll loan you a shell for your second bird! I been saving my turkey shells for about two years now. I think they get better with age. I hope you and your guys get some birds talking this year.

Thanks guys. I picked up a box of shells yesterday. The turkeys seem to be splitting up into smaller groups. I checked one of my spots in camden and there were about 10 birds 2 of them long beards. Just a few days ago there were 30+. Now my nephew wants to go so i recruted my father to take him. They are going to hunt one side of the road and we will hunt the other side.
