Just got back from a trip visiting friends that are wintering in Naples. Got to fish a bit and thought I’d share a few photos. We did one guided trip in the Ten Thousand Islands area of the Everglades out of Chockoloskee. Water temps were relatively cold so we didn’t have much luck early in the morning with the redfish. The trout and Spanish mackerel were cooperative so we ended up with a few dinners worth. The Spanish mackerel on the grill were awesome. Popping shrimp under floats for spotted trout. Hundreds of mangrove islands. Trout and mackerel at the cleaning station. Another trip took us to the barrier island of Keewaydin between Naples and Marco Island. Lots of ospreys nesting on the trip out. Docking on the bay side of the island. A few hundred yard walk to the gulf side of the island. Wind and waves were up making fishing difficult with our light gear. Mostly catfish and sheep head. First thing I noticed when we got to the gulf side was ‘possum tracks? Turned out to be armadillo tracks. And also deer on the island. Pretty bizarre to see tracks like these in the sand along the ocean. You can see the armadillo tracks in the sand at the very bottom of the photo and the high rise buildings of Marco Island in the horizon. Also fished the golf course ponds in the evening where we were staying with our friends. Plenty of spawning bass that cooperated. And one snook.
