so once again this year the reds are flocking to the shed eating grass seed and insulation, making nests..so i start plinking them off again..never really did much with them except freeze em and throw them into the back of a fisher or marten cubbie..some of these little buggers are real pretty though..so i decided to set a few 1.5 longspring which have black elec tape around both jaws so as not to damage the fur..well i got some real dandys so far..8 to be exact..i skinned them all out and now i looking for a stretcher or maybe someone who has some rough dimensions on one..dont have to be perfect as i know they arnt worth a whole lot..but i figured what the heck fur is fur and it gives me some real good practice so i dont get rusty when the traps arnt producing..hope someone can help i know theres a wealth of knowledge on this sight between all you guys

Hi there! My son and I just took our red squirrel off a stretcher...we used a female mink board and it worked great! We also stretched a flying squirrel...for him we squeezed a rat stretcher and wired it so it would be very narrow...again worked out great (despite the webbing around legs). The leather on the flying squirrel was extremely thin and it started to tear...the red squirrel is a bit tougher.
Hope the above helps! Let me know if you would like to see some picts.

NAFA has board dimensions for Red Squirrel but they want the Western variety. The board is the same as for Ermine but I have used female mink boards (which are a bit wider) for ermine so you are on the right track. Go to the NAFA site and you can download the pelt handling manual.
