Yesterday I saw where regular gas was going for $4.39 in the southerntier.I cant believe the Republicans, at least the conserative ones, are not making this a real big issue in the presidence race.It sure is cutting a big hole in a lot of peoples weekly income,at least the ones who live in the real world and have to drive a car.

This gas issue is going to make a lot of us change our plans for the upcoming season. This is nothing new to trappers,if it is not gas it mast crops ,mange ,water levels changing every other day, weather or whatever but we always seem to survive it.I have already adjusted my plans and hope to make the most of it.

I am a believer in the free markets too,but when it comes to the gas we are forced to use in part by the government regulations, having interfered with it big time, it has been a factor in the price we are currently paying.Plus the fact that forcing the adding of alcohol to the gas kills both milage and many of the engines that are forced to use it.

Agreed, corn has no place in gas. Using corn in gas is a farm subsidy

Can you imagine if Bush was still in office how big of a deal the opposite side would have made of 4.13 gasoline. Have to catch a lot of fur just to pay for the gas.

The republicans cannot make a big deal about it because it is out of both of their control. If Romney gets in he won't be able to lower the price of gas either.

maybe not in the short term, even with the stock holders and all the bought ghost barrels that haven't seen day light yet... but imagine their EPA policies... wouldn't put the rest of the USA in step with california.... and curtail speculation some... better then cap and trade... that you know is gonna see daylight again with the green liberals...
kinda imagine republicans might be so bold... they would also push for the pipe line from canada... creating JOBS... so some of in the so called middle class could stay in there homes.. even heat them... heck maybe even a few new oil refineries... you know creating even more private sector JOBS....
imagine the tax break the middle class could of got just with the solindra money and other tax payer dollars wasted on forced government pet green projects .... that COST and LOST JOBS
instead of picking winners and losers for the ultra liberal green agenda... they could of CUT the fed. tax on gas and fuel oil when it mattered...
promoted some of the energies we have and are economical feasible to harvest and produce... just look what their doing to the coal industry... their regulating it out of business... can you say LOST JOBS
you know help kick start the existing economy that they buried with an additional four trillion plus in debt cause the democrats in the senate don't want to pass a budget for how many years now..... so trickle down government can bankrupt us all... lol.. can you say california
hows the grocery shopping tab these days for a comparison...mirroring the pumps some are they...
they are treating our elders on fixed incomes just wonderfull with there budget policies... there is no inflation... just printing by the fed... some call it stolen equity.... guess others call it trickle down government redistribution... jim

They can do whatever they want. The small dairy farms are limited by the government what they can sell milk for even if the diesel price goes through the roof. You can bet they can tell the oil companies what fuel can sell for if they did not have their hands in the till also.

What small dairy farms? Very few left, and getting fewer every year. We have all the natural gas we can use, and yet they refuse to allow drilling..we have some of the largest oil reserves in the world, and we export oil. There is no reson for these kinds of gas prices, execpt greed. We will proably never see $3 gas again, so we should get used to it.
I have sharply decreased my trap line this year. No sense in going bankrupt checking traps.

Gas is 2.84 on the stck market. It is 4.00 at the pump. It shoud be 3.60-3.70 at the pump. Someone is making a great profit that cannot be justified.

That's correct, the shareholders, the same one's who make goods overseas, paying pennys as wages, then bring them here and sell them to people making dollars. It's the american way, has nothing to do with govt.

The cost of fuel and the 45% increase combined should just about dot the I as far as destroying what is left for employment opportunitys in this state the little town where I live has almost nothing left now and even the grocery store and one of the 2 gas stations that we have left are supposed to be closing. When people start abandoning their homes to move elsewhere I would have to guess that it is almost too late to turn it around in the near future.

I guess I just look at it this way. I don't trap for a living. I know that some of you do but the fur takes some of the bite out of gas prices. Not all but at least some but I get to still enjoy a true traditional out door skill. Five bucks a gallon would probably throw me off good but I would most likely still check my traps everyday. I just love it. Not lookin for a fight, just sayin.

Sorry to bum anyone out more than need be.The facts are the facts as anyone who traps fisher and K9s in the adirondacks knows these gas prices would wipe you out running a long enough line to take any real numbers of either.

When President Bush was in- everyone screamed that he had big oil in his pocket!!! Don't hear that now? They blame it on world wide demand??? The price per barrell is the same or darn near close to it?
