being mostly a dirthole trapper for both coyote and fox i never really used anything else other than them..wanted to make sure i could make one set well and i think i got it pretty well down..want to throw some flat sets this year..tryed a few mock sets today practicing blending the trap in with different surrounding and i think i got the concept...so now i was wondering what backings you guys use and the distance from the backing for both coyote and fox and how much to offset..just a rough idea because i know how animals vary and all..also what combinations do you use at the set for urine and lure..ie gland and urine..urine and call lure..any ifo would be great even some pics of sets would be better ;D..thanks shawn

great got a few locations with log roads with rocks about that size..always used the dirt hole in a situation like that but cant wait to try the flat set..do you just put a few drops or smear of lure on top or the side of rock facing the trap..and where does the shot of urine go..thanks alot

i use a qtip broke in half with gland lure placed towards trap, can also smear on rock, also the pee spray on rock towards trap, this can also be done with a log, grass tuff , tree what ever is going to catch the critters eye.

May sound funny but I use old pieces of fire wood that I think are to old to burn.......get them out ahead of time and there is no wasting 5 minutes on opening day at each spot looking for a log, rock, grass hump etc........but its what you have time for though too

Its just nice to be able to be quick if you are a long line trapper or someone who has an hour after work each day

any where from 5 to 8 inches i do not measure just set the trap out from, set as the taller the stick the farther away the animal will be want to have a smaller stick say 3 to 6 inches sticking out of the ground. make shure you put that stick in the ground good as some times they pull the stick out

This is my first year trapping and I haven't had any luck with dirt hole sets yet, seen fox tracks investigating my set from a couple feet out but never worked it.. On the other hand I found some coon feces with fox next to it so I made a flat set on the fox side of the scat about 8 inches from the fox scat.. The next morning, my first fox trapped!!!
