Thank you all for the information you provided. Today I ordered 1/2 dz. MB-550 RC 2-coiled OS. Also ordered J.C. Conners Heavy Duty T-bar shock springs, 1 dz. MB Crunch Proof Swivels, and 1 dz. Heavy Duty 6 Guage J Hooks, with a Ron March J Hook Tool. Signed up for the Trappers Course in Sept. Will be ready to roll in the fall. Now of course the next question will be do I dip or do I dye and wax? LOL! By the way Nightstalker, loved the link to trapperman. Looks like they do the job. Again, thank you all for taking the time.

Personally, I'd stay away from any dips. Not really any reason to dye them unless you like the color as they will be buried but most certainly wax them after cleaning the grease & oil off 1st.

I see no reason to 4 coil this trap as i would never consider it a good eastern coyote trap but it would make a pretty good fox trap eaven in the 2 coil version.

Other then making the trap look good, what does dying and waxing do. The 4 SC traps my father-in-law gave me he dyed and waxed, then never used. He went through the effort then never trapped. I have read about letting them before hand, some say clean the rust off. Any thoughts, suggestions appreciated. Why would dips not be good?

If shock springs are attached, do you dip them in the dye and wax?

im going to do every thing this year because in getting chained super stake for all my land traps and drags for my dps. also going to buy a couple Il/OL 650s for winter yotes. i will catch a fox and coyote this fall even if it kills me. Most dips have to be mixed with a gasoline of other fuel to be applied and they will have a slight gas smell to them unless you go with a water based dip

Tim Caven from MTP says he never dyes new traps. He just washes off the factory oil and waxes the first year. Then he dyes the 2nd year.

I'm gonna guess that it's because unless you make sure to do it, most traps don't get enough rust on them to make dying them worth it. It won't stick much anyways, so why do it.
