...in the freezer. Hopefully it's just temporary. I'm still pretty slow at putting beaver up, so I only do one at a time. Got these three done since Thursday. I was wondering is the lighter color of the one in the middle characteristic of a later season pelt, a younger beaver, or just because I scraped it cleaner? Also, when fleshing down around the tail, what do you all do when you get to the edge of the pelt? I can shave that area pretty good with the Necker. But when I get to the edge (just above where the tail was) the knife tends to want to bite into the leather. At this point I end up cutting it off with a scissor. I think there's got to be a better way.

With a very-very sharp knife---try doing the bottom inch of the pelt first---- (make sure you have all the tail leather off of the pelt)--- then do the next inch--- then continue on your way -------works for me.

Thank you.
bigbeav: I sew the rear leg holes. Sinch off the front legs with string or a rubber band and cut off the excess once dry. For sewing I use a moderate diameter curved needle. One side of the tip has been ground down flat on a wheel, making a sharp edged cutting point.

3/4" plywood. Cut into 1/3 sheets, 32" by 48". Used the oval pattern from FHA.

The one on the left was caught earlier in the season. It was also the first one I put up so it had more time to dry. These may be a couple of the reasons why it’s darker.
No, I haven’t tried clean skinning yet, but I may try it in the future.
