Set my first 330's and #4's. Man those 330's are intimidating, you would have thought i was defusing a bomb the way i took those safety's off on the first set. The second two went a little smoother, although i can say i will make sure the ice is thick enough before i try to set a #4 on it again...my left thumb will never let me forget. I found some pretty fresh, beat down trails so i hope i have some pics in the morning...hopefully my first flat tail.

Lol I remember the first time I did it....defusing a bomb is a good way to describe it. When I started trapping at 14 I got my hand slapped by a 220 which made me gun shy to this day I think.

TRapping in Greenville....and i got a nice one this morning, but i am having trouble posting the pics...i have posted pics before, don't know??? i tried to use photo bucket but i am crappy on the computer. So i use a low mega pix camera so i can get them on. Any way i am STOKED....the connibear closed the deal pretty quickly as it did not thrash at all. I will keep on trying to post the pics

Congrats on the beaver! Hope you catch some more.
If you haven't already, you should get one of those 330 safety's that clamp on the jaws. They're real simple; clamp them on when you first set the trap and unclamp it when you're all done placing it in a channel. It may save you a bunch of pain later.

The 330 caught it in the mouth (no broken teeth?) and i believe just after front shoulder. How should i keep the castor? freeze or just in a jar on the shelf?

after you have skinned a bunch it will only take 10 to 15 minutes keep catching & you will get good at it. fuzz fleshing beaver is just as much fun as coyotes, ;D

Really...fleshing is as hard...Oh well, i won't have to work out that day. Fuzz fleshing? I fleshed a yote before ( one i shot hunting) and it didn't seem that bad. AS hard as it maybe guys....beats watching lifetime with the wife, and that little extra for putting it up isn't bad either. Oh yeah....where do i find stretchers (oval boards or patterns to make one. or rings?) and how do i measure it to know what size to pin it up? Thanks

Beaver are a whole lot of fun too flesh did 4 this morning before i went too work now my arms feel like silly putty . When you flesh a beaver you will find that the bellies are pretty easy too flesh and don't press too hard as the skin is thin there and real easy too tear holes in them, the back is all grizzle and worse on the bigger beaver especially down by the tail area learn how too shave the grizzley back area with your fleshing knife and it will make it a lot easier too flesh.

For the patterns you might be able to find them online and draw it out on plywood. As for what size to nail it on just stretch the fur up to the nearest size on your board
