I have a question regarding my brand new KB's. Two of them when engaging from normal latch to night latch, skip the night latch and go off. Now I can set the night latch, but can't engage it from reg. latch down to night latch. Any ideas? I can night latch at the work bench, but with gloves and cold hands? Also, it seems on these 2 the loose arm is difficult to push down, not sure if this is related to the night latch or coincidental? I haven't seen anyone post any difficulties with KBs. Thank you for your input from a rookie.

I suspect you need to set the pan tension a little tighter, this is usually the main cause of permature firing. Also check the contact surface of the pan and jaw, there must be no foriegn material, welding slag, wax, or dirt. After making this adjustment, and having the trap function properly, be sure to check the pan tension for the species you are trapping for. Most of the time this will solve that problem. Your second concern can inadvertly be related to you first problem, but not very often. The lowering of the "free" jaw is accomplished by inserting a large screwdriver in the spring levers so as to twist them slightly away from the fixed jaw/pan side. Be sure to only twist the levers slightly and equally, until the desired adjustment is made. You may have to do this two or three times, setting the trap after each adjustment to check for the desired result.I have left a message with Kurt Beauregard, the maker of the K-B trap, and although he has gone away for the weekend, he will be there next week to help you if you are still having problems. Kurt's phone number is 518-993-4837. Or if you want, you can call me, and I will make arrangements to replace your traps with two new ones at no cost to you.
Best wishes---Valleytrapper

Thanks for the info. Valley Trapper. I tried everything suggested but still having some trouble with the one KB. All others are fine. Thank you. Tightened the pan, really loosened the pan, scraped night latch connections with a flat head, touched them up with a little steel wool and just can't get that one trap to night latch down. I can set it night latched and it will hold, just can't get it to click down. I'm new to all this and learning. Got snapped for the first time, LOL! I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. And I survived. Boy I can't wait to catch a coyote or fox.

Call me and I will exchange that K-B that is giving you a problem with a new K-B Laminated. As near perfect the K-B traps are right out of the box, ready to use, once in a great while one will show up needing more than the tips I gave you to try. Looking forward to hearing from you, real busy processing beavers and rats, so leave a message if I do not answer my office phone, I will call you back ASAP.
