We had lost a 330 Duke last Friday, apparently to theft as no animal we trap could break 9 gauge wire it was secured with. This afternoon New Wave Dave was walking his Lab where we have traps set in a ROW culvert for mink and rats, and discovered we had been beat for 4 DUKE #160's. They were there this morning for the 8:30AM check and gone this afternoon. At another Private location, where I have two castor mounds set for nuisance beaver at the end of a mile long PRIVATE ROAD on HEAVILY POSTED PROPERTY, I learned some trespassing Crappie fishermen with a swimming dog had THIS MORNING tangled with one of my BLAKE & LAMB #4 JUMP traps with a 7 1/4 " inch spread on a drowning wire. Apparently, they were contemplating malfeasance regarding my traps when one of the nearby Landowners showed up and informed them the traps were legally set with permission, compliant with all DEC regulations, informed them it was illegal to let their dog run off it's leash, and that they were trespassing on private property and had also driven in on a Private road. I pity whomever had to release FIDO from that Blake & Lamb #4 as it is one seriously tough trap to break open and set while empty. I can only imagine the how the release went. I called the Local ECO and reported the stolen trap incidences, as well as the dog catch and release. along with last Tuesday's Perch River trap disturbance/ stolen traps incident. They will be on the lookout. Oh, and BTW, we did catch 1 large -medium beaver, a nice Buck mink, two more muskrats and 5 catch and release snapping turtles. Thanks for looking. walleyed

That stinks....I think that is the reason why I don't like to spring trap.

High fur prices brings them out of their caves.....everytime in my years we've had prices like we're experiencing now we get high trap theft, especially in the public areas. So called sportsman, you know d@mn well it's trappers as they know where to look for beaver sets. A shame. you've lost quite a few the past week or so. Makes you wish for the good old days of $2.50 rats when you had the streams and swamps to yourself....

Sorry about the theft. Hope the culprit gets caught or goes away soon. Geez, you caught more turtles than fur! WE raised the white flag this morning and pulled almost every channel and crossover set with 330 Conibears. We even had a huge snapper cuaght by the neck in a #160 this morning. We have now caught way more snapping turtles and painted turtles than beaver. 17 snapping turtles in just the last six days. Enough. Watch, now temperatures will drop and It will snow after the steel is all in the truck. set out some new muskrat floats in a small marsh, and will add a couple dozen feedbed and rat toilet sets tomorrow morning. Update on the dog catch and release: It took THREE grown men to be BARELY able to remove the #4 Blake and Lamb JUMP from the dog yesterday and the trap reportedly had a perfect PAD catch. The jaw holding power and spring strength of that trap is incredible !!! Owner said: "I will NEVER let my Dog Run loose again." Famous last words. walleyed
