Hi all, is the dukes # 3 coil spring sufficient for trapping beaver?

not a good trap for beaver......better be a small beaver......4's and 5's would be better

I am no expert... But I like #4 double longs for the front foot... MB-750s for the back foot.. My take and just my opinion is all

#3 Dukes will work for a front foot catch, little too small to use effectivly of a back foot catch on a consistent basis without getting some toe holds and possible losses.

well funds limited, guess I'll have to set for front foot. I'll use the set with a log or something to cause the beaver to drop its front foot when its chest hits the obstruction upon swimming up to the set. If I can't get em with the # 3's I'll get em with the 330's. One way or another i'll get em. Thanks all next order will be including bridger # 5's.

330's work great at castor mounds and MANY have been taken in them...if you go with the footholds, you can use small sharpened poke sticks that sit just above the water level at an angle with your trap set right under them in about 2"-3" of water...as the beaver swims up, he hits the poke sticks with his chect and drops his feet right into your trap...just remember to offset the trap just as you would at a dirt-hole set.

I am new at trapping, and it may be me, but i have missed several times on Beaver with a Duke #4. Granted the first time or two were probally bumped by the chest..did not know about "poker stick trick". I am pretty sure the last time or two was due to the trap being too small. The trap was at end of cable with no Beaver. So i broke down and bought 2 750's. Can't wait for ice to melt to set em. Don't think they are getting out of those. Attachments:

I have only had 1 750 sprung w/o a beaver in it... Iam sure that was my fault.
