Snow covered the landscape this morning and we started setting floats in various out of the way places. we set a whole bunch off the beaten path because a GOON is dropping balls of wadded up grass on our Roadside float traps off the bridges and springing them. We know the culprit and have informed the proper authority (S&W) and will let those two handle it. LOL Anyway, we did catch a few extremely Rare Jefferson County muskrat and, at one particular stop where a "Junk" Duke 330 has soaked for 18 days while we "waited patiently", we found a devastated trap site which we cautiously approached and saw this: After unwinding the twisted mass of trap spring stakes, tether wire, grass wads, and leaves we uncovered this: This was a nice dark female otter right around Large size. This was just down stream from where we missed one last week. So this makes four otter "accidently" caught this 2011-2012 season in those "JUNK" Duke 330's in very marginal otter habitat. better "Lucky" than "good" any day. LOL We were so excited by this morning's score that we scouted, identified, and set on some "Smoking Hot" otter sign further south that we have, until today, been holding back on. The beaver, however, continue to ignore us but maybe we just don't have enough steel out in the "right" places. I guess we'll set more tomorrow. Thanks for looking. walleyed

Hey, if you ever need to part with those "junk" Duke 330's, let me know! I think I know how to make them more "valuable"!

Hey, if you ever need to part with those "junk" Duke 330's, let me know! I think I know how to make them more "valuable"! All the dog notches have been filed and deepened, and the outer edge of each notch have been file beveled so that they fire with only a tiny bit of trigger travel. I run the trigger on the bottom, as I'm trying not to get as many refusals as when it is on the top and they plow into the trigger with their face. I guess maybe my attempt at veiled sarcasm regarding the effectiveness of Duke 330's got lost in the post. LOL I actually think they are a great trap and is mostly what I own and use. walleyed

I used to love when I was laid off for the winter!! I would trap the whole winter, one year I got 600 rats and ran out of freezer space. I need to find a new job!
