Its Deer season but still scouting old & new spots for rabbit. They seem to be really down in some spots than high in others no middle ground. Can't wait to get back after them.

The year started out seemingly well as for bunny sightings, but I,m sure that predation has taken quite a toll. Owls, hawks, hawks, hawks,.................................!! And that's no gruff!! I've gotten in the past few years to where I won't shoot them, except 2-3 for the cookpot, due to dwindling population. However, the grouse seem to be plentiful!!!

I do like to see the hawks going after the red squirrels! If the squirrel survives the attempt on it's life then it chatters it's head off! It's really quite funny!!!

If the kids are old enough to use a firearm without a responsible adult, they should be given a stern "talking to"( if someone has'nt already). If they grow up thinking that it's ok to harvest an animal whenever they please then they will become the next generation of lowlife poachers!!!! It is our duty as NY sportsmen to stop/prevent these violations, whether it be explaining the regulations to some kids or reporting the illegal activities to the DEC! I personally don't want to share the woods and water with people who just TAKE TAKE TAKE for their own pleasure(kids or not)! Good luck and happy trappin'

Spoke with the family Dad ,mom & sons. Expained my point, They understand now. The boy was honest and told me what he did & why. Like most kids just wanted something to do, he's living on a 1/2a land ,really just a bored kid. I offered to take him out with my son and me, show him what rabbit hunting over dogs was like. He said he was very sorry, understood why I would be mad. His dad told him no more end. All in all it worked out, parted as friends. Will take him hunting. Better than putting the law on him, he did'nt understand. Well maybe the rabbit population will pick up around here LOL
