on my families farm, weve been having sightings of some kind of wolve. its defenitely not a coyote. it is way to big. my uncle thinks the DEC is putting the wolves in new york to decrease the population of deer. jesse

what ever this is, it doesnt hunt like a coyote would, well you know how a coyote will goe running in the field chasing the deer, well this animal stalks the deer waiting for the perfect chance to attack. me and my cousin found 3 dead dear from whatever this thing is. jesse

Most likely a Coy-Dog..
Someone's mut ran the woods and mated with a coyote..
I seen one in the Liberty area last season..

It sounds like a coy-dog, as already stated. as for the DEC releasing wolves, if they do anything like that they must inform the general public and not keep it a secret. So we would know if it was really happening that way.

well the dec released mountain lions in oneida county and had not told the public Jesse - being that this is the internet, I don't believe a whole lot without proof. If you are going to make a statement like that then how about a little proof, meaning facts, not some rumor. I'm not being wise, but if you have some facts then you may want to call Fur, Fish and Game or some other big magazine, as that would certainly be a story worth some money. If you could trap one then the pics would be worth even more. I see that you're a younger sportsman, so I'm not sure how much you know about politics and our state government. Given the current state of the $$ in the DEC Conservation Fund, does anyone believe that the DEC would do anything to slow or stop the sale of any licenses (like doe permits) by releasing something that would cut the deer herd down? No way it will ever happen. The DEC makes way too much money on deer licenses and doe permits. Then there is the fact that the DEC could not legally or otherwise release any such animals without a huge study, public comment period, etc. Look what they went through when they wanted to propose importing moose to add to our existing population. Then there is liability - releasing wolves or mountain lions without the consent of the public would be a huge risk for the state. Are there wolves and/or mountain lions roaming the wild in NY - possibly an escaped pet or intentionally released or even a wolf wandering through - could be. I think most would agree that dogs are to blame for most of the alleged wolf and mountain lion livestock attacks, and bobcats and fisher make up the majority of the mountain lion sightings. I'll be the first to admit I was wrong if any proof is ever presented.

I would love to see the papers. Could you scan it in?
I know a newspaper in the Adirondacks a few months ago publish this picture and said that someone hit it someone in the Adirondack park.
It happens to be the same picture that was emailed around the world a thousand times and killed in every state in the USA. The real story is at Snopes. We have heard a thousand stories around here about a cougar killing a horse just down the road but there are no confirmed cases anywhere accounting for this.
