Looks like a Rookery For the infamous shikepoke bird, The Great blue Heron.
There are far too many of these things since they have fallen under complete Federal protection.
They eat everything up to and including juvenile Muskrats.
Just another of many reasons the muskrat is scarce in many swamps and marshes with perfect muskrat habitat, whether these places get trapped or not.

That is exactly what it is walleyed! I was wondering if anyone would know that. It sounds like a bunch of dinosaurs when they get to squawking.

I'm not an ornithologist, but I suspect that the Heron Genus/species is not too far off from the Pterodactyl on the Taxonomical tree.
If your ever out in the swamp, don't get under their nests as they will proceed to vomit, regurgitate, and defecate upon you until you flee the area.
As A DEC Bureau of Wildlife Technician in the early 1980's, I was assigned the task of identifying, searching for, and mapping all Critical Heron Habitats and Rookeries throughout the Southern Tier Counties of Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler, and Yates
As low man on the totem pole, I was stuck with the job as no one else wanted to be puked and crapped upon from above.
It helped me to build the proper attitude and character as a State Employee. LOL
