Dear Friends, I have an idea, all of us ametuer stinky fingers put our thoughts together and build a concoction. The finished product could be auctioned or raffled to benefit NYSTA. Let me know if anybody is interested. Regards papabear

Ok, we need to decide what we the base ingredient/s will be. Ex: meat, fruit, castor or is there something different that you would prefer? Regards papabear

I am just throwing this out there but you never hear about matrix lure for grey fox. I am pretty positive their mating time is after trapping season is over so I would think we would want to key in on a hunger/food lure, yes?

Good ideas so far. For a base I was thinking along the lines of ground deer liver or ground beaver oil sacs. Whats your thoughts Mr. Bill. Anyone else have an idea feel free to jump in. Regards papabear

papabear---for grays I am very partial to the sacs.Years ago when I trapped K9's seriously---I liked a mouse with some lure on it down a hole for grays-----they drove me nuts with there ability to pull the mice out of the holes.( i was lucky it was only a short trip.)

Mr Denny and Master Brandon do you fellas have any objections to ground beaver oil sacs as a base?......... if not, shal we start with fresh, lightly tainted, strong taint or rotted down? Regards papabear

After watching grey fox working dirt holes, via trail cams, I am convinced that a substantial backing and side blocking are necessarry to catch any number of them. The blocking does not seem to bother them if they want whats in the hole. Regards papabear

Now we decide the amount of base material we need. Are we using it fresh or tainted? Also we must decide what other ingredients are compatible with the base at the same time attractive to our target animal. I have already worked out a formula but before I disclose mine I would like you fellas to tell what your ideas are. we then can decide as a team what exact formula we will incorporate into this concoction. Regards papabear

I love your thread but I don't have a clue therefore won't embarrass myself by trying to add to this. The closest I come to doing my own thing is fresh bait and urine. So I will watch with interest.

I think a slight taint for the mice will be OK if everyone else agrees-----I would also like to know if anyone has anything against putting in a few drops of Peppermint-or Wintergreen in with the mice when they are done tainting.

Before we get the cart in front of the horse, what base ingredient are we using; ground mice or beaver oil sacs and what amount of it? Also what is the desired batch size? Regards papabear
