Sooooo ----exactly what kind of help would you like----.I would like to help but I have to know HOW----The last thing I want is to be accused of leading a young feller the wrong direction----You have to have a plan. Some Idea of what you want to do and how you are going to do it---dont jump into this lure thing with your eyes clossed.---I know most of these guys on this thread and there is a world of information to be gained from them---- BE WISE ---ask---form a plan then go for it.----BUT dont call me 3:00 am saying the lure dont taste wright.---Call ED---Bob---Mike--papa bear---LOL.
Ahh haa another gent looking to join in the amature stinky fingers fraturnity. Dont be bashful, jump right in with both hands. A little advise: Dont throw away your favorite lures just yet.....start on a small scale with basic formulas.....aquire the best ingredients you can.......... understand the animal that you are concocting the attractor for... Question on pricing, if you can get a pint of gland lure already made up for the same cost or less than the ingredients to make your own...... is it just a thing to say you caught something with something you made up? Mine would be the most basic of gland lures....+++++ some secret ingredients Ed!!!! Just wondering.

OK a plan - a plain red fox gland lure - with just urine will draw an animal how far off of the beaten path? Would adding some muskrat glands add some drawing power? Again, I am the dolt asking the questions.
Denny; ---I have seen fox---come on the run --for more than 200 yards when they have smelled the lure----but I have seen where they have waked right buy a set---only a few feet away.----for what reason I have no idea.I think the Idea of muskrat glands in a fox gland lure is to smooth out the spike you get with the smell---more so than a call.I think the gland smell should be the dominate smell in any gland lure---not another smell of another ingredient. And this includes the amount of urine used if you use any at all.
good questions denny but you might be getting ahead of yourself some

kinda touched in part here ..

Never layed a hand on the guy but did break a few 2 by 4's on his back---LOL----NOW if you want to talk slippery----Jim will fill that bill right to the top-----he could explain your question better than I ----he has one of them SILVER things in his mouth----.and he learn's fast.He also builds some great lure.
Denny----Jim is married to a very lovely large lady ---say 6-6 // 250--she makes him toe the line----he spends a lot of time explaining --jest exactly what he is doing each day--thats what he means when he said HE lost it ---- his ability to think and run at the same time.
As Mr. Severing stated, glands with the subtle addition of secretions and urine should be the dominant odor. Addition of other ingredients should be compatable to the glands and enhance the true gland odor and not overpower it. Ingredients such as Asafoetida, Lovage, and a few others will enhance a gland lure if added in small amounts. Example take a pint of prepared glands, put 8 oz in a clean jar, there you have a straight gland lure now take the remaining 8 oz and add 1/4 oz of Asafoetida and 1/4 oz of Lovage now you have a matrix gland lure. Keep it simple! Regards papabear
