ive heard of hole in tree set. the way i learned it was drill a hole in the tree with a 1/3 to 1/2 inch drill bit and put lure or bait in it. keep the hole about a foot or 2 above the ground with the trap at most 6 inches away from the tree. it works for fox fishes cats and yotes.

Now there is a set I once used quite a bit, but have forgotten about. That's a decent set right there for deep snow conditions. I think I'll set a couple up this weekend.

I'm double posting on this subject because it brought back memories. I caught my 3 rd Otter ever in one of these feed boxes. When I made the feed box set. I only had a #2 jump trap with me. It worked well and I never bothered changing it out. I'd caught a few rats out of the box and things had slowed down with it. I just left it in and checked it every day for the heck of it. One day I checked, the trap was missing and the wire led down the hole. I pulled up on the wire and chain, it felt much heavier than a normal rat. I was very suprised to pull an Otter up through that hole. He must have needed air and a rest and came in there and connected with that Victor jumptrap. I was one happy 14 year old kid, I can tell you that.
