Ever use it on yotes? Have heard some say it is great under 100 yards and some say it sucks. Any opinions?

Ive used it on yotes and chucks under 100 yards and it packs quite a punch. After 100 yards you loose alot umph

I have a Savage model 93 with a bull barrel and I think the best answers in my opinion and everyone is certainly entitled to there own is the .17 is not the "best tool for the job" will it do the job at 100yards yes but more important would be shot placement. The problem I have with the .17 HMR is the bullet is so light that they drift terrible and at least where I live hunting with no wind NEVER happens at best making that "shot placement" quiet a task.I've been benched and dialed in on woodchucks at 120yards and watched dirt fly 6 inches to the right or left with a 5-10 crosswind. Trying to calculate that hunting yotes wouldn't be fun when a 22-250 or something o that nature would be a better suited tool for the job. Now at 50 yards they are absolute tack drivers. Just my .02 and my experience with my .17HMR.

ive killed coyotes among other things with a .17 and it does a decent job on them, but a previously stated shot placemant is important and wind really changes the path of those tiny bullets. with that being said, its a really fun cartridge to play around with and in my oppinion a must have for the gun collection.

17 HMR no good for coyotes. It's alot of fun to shoot on the range but in my belief no good in the field. I had one and nearly threw it into the field after I missed several reds. The bullet is way too light to handle wind and it's so hyper that it will explode if it hits a blade of grass. I stepped up to the 22mag and still don't feel confidant with it on coyotes. Now that deer season is closed I can finally shoot the 204.

I bought 1 on a deal (77/17) and i've had alot of fun with it, but...I sold it back in early December. It just doesn't handle most situations. Only a couple when the moment is right... Been shooting my 5mm lately, and it's got plenty of evil for anything that'll come to a rabbit call this time of year. Mike06
