Hello.. my first year trapping just got my license and got a few leghold traps out there.. someone just pointed out a beaver dam the town just tore down and the beavers just rebuilt. and with the season opening down here on the 10th I offered to help. I am just not sure of a few things. I understand setting a leghold trap with a drowning rig at a slide or castor mound in about 2" or 3" of water but is the trap covered or just bedded into the bottom with nothing covering it?? And this location has an 6 or 8 foot drainage pipe running under a road and there is activity on each side of it. The water is about 3 or 4 foot deep in the pipe. Can I set 330 or 320 right in the pipe on the bottom of the pipe.. and again do I camouflage or how do I camouflage the traps or do I bait them with a piece of popolar?? Thanks for the help in advance John

Welcome to the Forum! You answered your own questions, lol. No need to cover your traps with anything and placing a 330 in the bottom of the pipe should work. You should place a "dive" stick so that if they're swimming on top of the water they dive under and right into your trap however. You didn't say what size foothold you were using, so I don't know if you were going for a front or rear foot catch. If going for a front foot catch the depth is about right, just remember to offset the trap in the run, either left or right of center.

caster mound set is amazing way to catch thm but try this
go to the edge of the river were u know were beavers are
and cut in about a foot or so and in a square take some trees aspen or popler would work great and cut scrap some bark off the botton
now make a drown rig threw the hole u just cut in the bank place the sticks u just scraped the bark of of in the back of the hole and put your foot hold infront of the them about two or three inches
when a beaver swims by and sees them sticks hes gonna think a free meal but when he goes to grab them he will get caught in the trap and swim out and boom you got yourself a beaver
