Trying to find out if the screw in tree steps are legal in the adk park. Word of mouth is that you can't screw them into trees on state land in the park. Can anybody point me to the regulation that might say either way? Thanks

You cannot use them on state or federal land.

"Know the Rules. On state lands, it is illegal to place nails or other hardware into trees, or to build permanent structures, such as tree stands, platforms and blinds. On private lands, it is illegal to cut or remove trees or other plants, or to cut limbs or damage bark (such as from putting up blinds or tree stands, or cutting shooting lanes or trails) without the landowner's permission." Here is the link: www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9186.html

Ill be honest with you. They have ladder peices that you can strap onto a tree. If you add up tree steps and the price of the ladder, its just about even. Plus IMO I feel that the ladder is slightly safer! Theft may be a problem, but you can always take the bottom ladder off!
