Interesting, I've studied for the exam in the past also but have not yet taken it. It's something I want to do when I retire, because the time committment is not yet something that I have available. But I stay abreast of things in the sport and had the pleasure of living next door to a falconer for several years a number of years back. I find birds of prey facinating, and the relationship between man and hawk on game even more so.
I still read plenty on the sport, you can do searches in Google and there are many beginner sites showing their pens and designs. Plenty of catalogs out there selling books with the pen designs, and even the DEC manual you have shows some basics. Also some forums like this out there that should help. Finding a sponsor is going to be the toughest thing, not many around and those that are need to have the time also.
So have you decided on your first hawk?....Kestrels will bore you quickly, redtail is the way to go.
