Try food base lures, gland lures(night owl)I can't stress it enough fresh urine!!!!!! Prevailing wind is very important along with location,location,location..........Breaks in hedge rows, roads leading into fields, pinch points(example maybe a road that connects two fields, that passes threw a patch of woods,ect,ect.........a place along a farm lane, log road.... is also a good place to start...

You didn't say if you were using any lure with your bait or what type of sets you were using. I don't use bait an all my sets, some will get just lure, some just bait, some just urine and then some will get a combination. Anything that you use for bait will work, as long as it isn't too rotton. The advice given in the last post was right on target, you have to be on location and have the wind working in your favor, a fox can't find what a fox can't smell. One last thing to consider, just because someone tells you there are fox there doesn't mean there is. Did you see and tracks, scat or evidence of kills in the area yourself?

Gland lure and urine works best for me BUT this season I had great success using a shellfish bait for the early season fox , I stay away from meat based stuff early as it seems to attract more trash ( possums) . I only caught 4 possum and 6 skunks all season. The majority ( at least 60-70%) of the canines I caught were in post sets using only urine coyote or fox didn't matter.

I don't run a huge line. I can catch all the bait I want in the summer in mouse traps set around my garage and sheds. I freeze them. One per dirthole with a little dirt over the top over them. They work great!!
Believe it or not, cheap dog food is great bait too!! Dry dog food!

Remember the out come reflects how much effort is put into this sport . The harder you work and time invested shows with learning curve and fur in the shed. Trying to do as little as possible will show. Not to mention a new trapper will get discouraged checking empty sets baited with tampons. Not that it will not work just not practical and very unsanitary . You get out what you put in.

Atleast with the tampons you'd have a string you could have sticking out of the jar so you wouldn't have to touch it. Also have you seen the comercial for tampons wher there was a young couple out in a rowboat and it sprung a leak, the guy was looking through his tackle box for a quick fix, She pulled out a tampon and pluged the hole? Then there was the tampon comercialon the radio it went, Tampex Tampons, We're not number One- But we're up in there! So they do have mulitpule uses I guess, A new unused one would probably work if you accidently shot youself, You'd be able to use it toplug up the bullet hole.Years ago I use to cut a lot of firewood with an older friend, He always had Cotex Pads in a waterproof Ammo Can that he used as a first-aid kit, Them pads are the cats ass if you ever got cut up with a chainsaw or any other deep cut wound.

Before temperatures reach freezing I'd like making a carcass set with squirrel. I've used them as bait before without traps and they're almost always gone the next night. After the freeze I like Minnesota Brand Canine Bait or Cavens Food Lure.
