The NYS Assembly Bill A-9462A has been reported. This bill would make CR's a trapping tool for State-wide use (exempting the five most southern counties.) Thank you to all of those who worked on this issue and have already made calls to their Assembly Representatives. The heavy lifting starts now so it is imperative that each of you contact your Assembly member and ask them to support A-9462A....DO NOT LEAVE THIS UP TO OTHERS!!! assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?default_fld=&bn=A09462&term=2015&Summary=Y&Memo=Y&Text=Y ****NOW ALSO S-2953c HAS BEEN REPORTED****

Being a trapper and a runner of hounds, I just can't support this.

I wish you guys the best, I hope you get another tool in your tool bag, just think how much easier it will be to carry 3 doz. CR's and you wont have to worry as much about snow or freezing temps. it will open a whole new way of trapping for you. now if we could get nj to allow leg holds

Bluetickboy, a cable restraint is just that, a restraint. In a non-entanglement setting it would be no different than having your dog on a lead with a choke collar! So, explain what you don't like about cable restraints?

Bill Magee used to be our Assemblyman until redistricting messed that up a few years back. Now it's Ken Blankenbush, I've never had any issues bad enough to have to reach out for his help so I don't know much about the man. But today I got an email reply from Brian Peck, his Chief of Staff. Nice reply, fairly informative. He's a NY licensed trapper, and was a student and friend of Pat Arnold. He didn't mention membership in NYSTA or this site but I'd be surprised if he wasn't.
They're listening, give them something to hear. Or read...

tmc, so will Blankenbush be signing on to the Magee bill? How did you leave it with them?

Redknot, he didn't specify. But here's his reply copy and pasted:
Good morning Mr. Clark,
Thank you for contacting Assemblyman Blankenbush's office regarding cable restraint. I always appreciate getting feedback.
I am the Assemblyman's Chief of Staff and also a NYS licensed trapper. You might have known my instructor Pat Arnold. She is someone that I truly miss and was a great Conservation advocate. I miss bending her ear or was she bending mine... About issues facing trapping and conservation. We need people like her in NYS talking to our representatives and the community and building up a new generation.
On your topic I will be discussing this with the Assemblyman, but wanted you to know that you can also reach out to me in his District Office our number (315) 493-3909 if you ever would like to discuss anything.
Thanks again for reaching out to us.
Sincerely,
Brian Peck Chief of Staff Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush

tmc, Sounds like you made a great connection with Blankenbush's Office, perhaps you can check back in with him in a week or so, providing you don't hear from him first.
Jd and Mud, nice videos, those could come in handy..Thanks for the offer to use them...
Thanks to all of you that have already made phone calls or sent emails. We really need to get some more Assembly En Con Members on the bill. Lifton in Cortland/Thompkins Counties and Gunther in Sullivan County. Any trappers in those districts are needed big time!
We also still need to have the Senate version of the bill S-2953b (Senator Ortt) amended to match A-9462a. I have contacted two Senators and asked them to speak to Ortt on our behalf, but it would be extremely useful to find trappers in Senator Ortt’s District, Niagara and Orleans Counties, to help with this process...

I have to ask ? What organization is behind this bill ? Did our NYSTA president confer with anyone on this ? If so he made no mention of it at Saturday's BOD meeting . I smell a couple of skunks !

Very long story , Dave Miller has worked in Albany for years on this issue . The wording and specifics have to be perfect. He has been told it will not pass and specifics will need to be changed . Essentially the trappers of N.Y. are back at square one thanks to those who shouldn't be involved in this process . We have been thrown under the bus before by these or this individual before . I'd really like to know if our president endorsed this endeavor. BUT , we'll probably never know . Much like politicians say " we didn't lie , we just didn't tell everything."
