Are you scanning with the night vision or with a light? I am assuming your using just a night vision scope to shoot and scanning with something else. Thanks for any advice I know coyotes are a real challenge at night, thanks.

I scan with a night vision scope, but only when set up hunting in an area that I am very familiar with and only in a direction that I know is safe to shoot! You don't ride around and poke a gun into directions that you are unfamiliar with. Anyone who has used GEN 3+ NV as I have will tell you that under the right conditions, you can see far more and much farther than any light ever will. On a night with either half to full moon overhead or snow on the ground I can watch and identify foxes vs coyotes beyond 500 yards!I have shot coyotes at 250 yds w/Gen 3+.

How much did your success go up with night vision, was it double you think, thanks!!! Nice pics also!!!

I got very frustrated using a light and only used it for a short time! I do know guys do great with them, however! I have taken 94 coyotes in recent years and would estimate that I would have only about 1/3 that number without night vision. I find some predators to be dumb as a box of rocks...even with a light. My experience in order of dumbest to smartest would be...possum,skunk,raccoon, bob cat (shot 2 w/lt), gray fox, red fox and smartest of all coyote. I use an ATN MARS Gen 3+ 6x on a tactical Savage .17 HMR or an ATN Gen 3 5x on a .223. Hunting with nightvision is an entirely different ball game!

Nice photos, what kind of calls do you use?

I use a Primos howler mouth call and an older Phantom electronic (pic) both of which are quite versatile. There are much better options out there! I own woods and hay fields where I monitor small bait piles with cameras and find that visits to bait piles can be quite predictable if you keep them small creating competition for an early evening meal.

A predator hunter has no greater friend(s) than deer calmly feeding in a hayfield that he is watching with night vision. The minute their heads and tails go up and they start nervously high stepping it’s almost always a guarantee that a coyote can be found in the direction they are looking. Such was the case with this male coyote that was working the edge of a swamp where I had seen and passed up two gray foxes running together earlier.

I think there are a few more coyotes around the area I hunt this year due to the fact that their movement and my ability to hunt them was restricted last year because of deep snow. Such is not the case this year. Shot this one last night... big healthy female.

Nice looking coyote. I have a Primos howler and a FoxPro. But I do most of my calling with my home made calls. How well do the coyotes in your area respond to the howler?

I have had success calling back coyotes that I was watching with nightvision, but did not get shots at before they left the area I was hunting.

If there is any objection to the content of this coyote pic from last night and I am asked to remove it... I will.

These two coyotes took a bit of a hike and decided to "drop" into the area where I was waiting for them. Both were taken with night vision on an AR-15... one at 105 yards and one at 175 yards
