ok papabear i have read many times in your posts about the wonders of smuckers grape jelly so i went and bought some to try for whatever happens along hopefully a red or gray but we will see . my question is how do i make the set ? is it just a dirt hole with the jelly in the bottom and thats it ? any other lure or bait or urine ? how deep a dirt hole should it be ? the jelly close up smells some but down a deep hole not sure it will have much drawing power ? any bit of your expertise and advice would be greatly appreciated ...and thank you for all your posts in the bait and lure section ... they help all of us !! so far i have made a pint of coon and mink bait ( 4 cans sardines in oil 1 can mackerel and two table spoons sodium benzoate ) and a fisher call ( skunk essence and vasoline ) also some venison tainting but not sure what the next step is for that or what i should do to it ...lmao my sisters garage smells wonderful .... i have visions of coons ripping the walls down to get in !

Dear Friend, Thank you for the kind words. I use grape jelly as a "bait" early in the season I place the grape jelly either at the bottom of a dirt hole or under a rock or chunk of wood at a flat set and at hole in the tree sets. I will make two sets about 6-8 feet apart one will get a call type lure, the other set gets baited with jelly or whatever else I'm using that has a subtle food odor. Canines can smell the jelly at the bottom of a dirthole! You'll be surprised how many will be smuckered, lol. Regards

Thank you so much for your reply Papabear... i wish i had a few days to pick that brain of yours.. and this set will be one of the first i put in this coming season . If you have any other advice as to set location or unusual sets you cant find in books i am all ears !!!! Your willingness to share your knowledge and experience is greatly appreciated as i want to take luck out of the equation this season and put the odds in my favor lol

Dear Friend, put 2 quarts of crushed ripe berries in a cooking pot.....take a box of "sure-jell" (yellow box) powder put it in a jar with 4 oz of vodka and shake well....add to the berries.....start cooking and stir in a quart of honey........ bring mixture to a boil , continue to stir....allow to cook at a rolling boil for a couple of minutes......remove from heat.....allow to cool then jar it up. Regards

Used in two sets and had one miss that i think was coon or possum by the tracks left but none clear enough to say for sure which was the culprit. Two semi flat stones with jelly smashed in between.the little bugs loved it though...one warm day and there was hundreds crawling on the rocks...
