I am already planning on using fish covered with salt in a five gallon pail. I just wonder if I can do the same with beaver meat and would it be as good.

This is just my $0.02 but I'd stick with fresh, thawed beaver meat or fatty venison scraps. After a very limited try with the salted fish for a couple of different critters I wasn't overly impressed.

As far as the beaver meat is concerned I would use it fresh. Not all salted fish is equal. Very oily saltwater species works the best. A lot of guys try salting freshwater species like sunfish but its not even close in comparison imo.

Which saltwater fish do you suggest?

blue fish, salmon, swordfish scraps etc. Any of the oiler saltwater species always worked better. if you have a local fish market you can get the scraps from processing usually free. Have used them with good success in the past. Nothing beats fresh beaver meat though. again just my opinion.

If I use fish , I like it fresh. If I use muskrat and or beaver I like it fresh also.

As far as fish for marten it's hard to beat salted herring. I use fresh frozen beaver but one of the best catches I've had was on fatty beef scraps.
