Anyone watching the auction online? Yikes! Otters are in the dumps. Lots and lots of unsold goods. Tighten up your belts for another lean season next year. I predict plenty of hold overs.

I predict plenty of cheap used traps coming soon. All those that jumped in the last few years trying to make money will hopefully get out leaving less competition

Not good at all. Wild mink are totally in the toilet and no one even wants otter even at ridiculously low prices.

Wcs, it is only silver lining other than less competition. I'm in market to expand my inventory now. Wasn't very many years ago guys couldn't carry dps to their trucks fast enough.

Good coyotes did well. The trash went for nothing. Select Reds went ok, again the trash was left behind. You couldn't give Greys away. I'm eager to see how the Beaver do. I have a few skunks and some Weasels coming up as well. C'mon!, Big money, no whammies

Yotes and rats held up pretty decently. Everything else was a disaster.

There might be plenty of used trap for sale soon... but a very small percentage offered at truly low prices. Most sellers expect 75% to 90% of new-in-box prices.
Unless I can buy used traps for roughly half of what the price of new is, I prefer to buy brand new. Seldom will you fid solid, strong, quality traps at 50% of retail ask.

Has anyone gone through the catalogue and seen all the buy backs? ALL the weasels (ermine) except one small section, ALL the grinners, skunks, even Martin and some Fisher. Almost all the coons. We have a flooded market on our hands...

I sold most of my grinners as well for a $3 average and all my skunks sold for $6. I had a skunk sell for $10 but I can't find the catalog for them. I wondered if that was top lot?

Stop trapping for a year!! The big money fur kings have you. UNIONIZE Stop trapping. If there is no wild fur for a year they will start paying. The big fur kings are selling coats for $5,000+ How much are you getting for your fur? They have you and they know it. I know every one enjoys trapping but it is a BIG losing proposition. They will suck up all the holdovers at a historically low price. That is their plan. Every 10 years or so they give you better prices to keep you hooked. Then you have spent a lot of time and expenses to lose money every other year. Wise up!

Fisherking, That's a funny take. Unionize, quit trapping. I hope that was a tongue in cheek comment. It certainly isn't the "once in a while surge" in fur prices that has me "hooked" on trapping. The promise of a newly made set. The excitment I feel when I find a new Beaver colony or see a fresh dam. The heart skip I get when I see coyote ears sticking up out of the stubble, or kicking the snow off a Fisher that's wearing one of my conibears. How about a brown Muskrat arse bobbing in the water when I wade up to the set? That's what has me hooked on trapping. Remembering my father smiling and congratulating me when I caught my first Beaver. That's a strong addiction to break my friend. I don't need to unionize, as long as there's a market and it's legal, I'll trap fur. I always have.

For some sections, that solution will likely result in nothing more than driving up the price of ranch fur... um, what fur do you farm again? lol! Of course just kidding. I don't see it as a solution, though; heck, "unionize???" It's easier to herd cats and teach them to sing together than it is to get trappers to do much more together than meet at conventions or chew the fat online. And even then, you'll see more cat fights on trapper forums than among cats any day.

I enjoy trapping as much as the next guy. I was a kid on my Dad's line too with many fond memories. But there are a lot of trappers who depend on the income from their fur. The prices the trapper's sell for even in good years pale in comparison with the old days. The furriers are the only ones making a killing. If everyone stopped for a year or two there would be a huge shortage in furs for them to make their garments. I know it is unrealistic and I know it won't happen but for the guys who need the money it might work
