There are our thickeners available from some of the supply dealers. If you want, you can use bone meal, flour or any other similar type product. Are you looking for a paste or salve type consistency? For that, melt one part lanolin in a saucepan over low heat. After melted, add an equal amount of mineral oil. Then, while still warm, mix in the amount of lure mixture equal to the total amount of the lanolin/mineral oil mix. In other words, the lanolin/ oil mix lure mix at 50/50 ratios.

Dear Friend, Food grade Diamataceous Earth. Can be purchased at home and garden centers. It will thicken your concoction without altering or changing its odor. Regards

Anybody used skunk grease or is that more of a base than a thickner? It has almost no smell (to me).

Thanks Mike, I'm a little new to the lure making side, make a lotta good bait however. I've been experimenting with gland lure lately. The skunk grease seemed to work good but I was just experimenting some.

Dear Mr. Madtrapper, Friend you didn't state the main ingredients in your lure. You also didn't mention whether or not it mattered, to you, if your lures current odor was altered by an ingredient added to thicken it.
I personally don't like to add ingredients to a concoction that don't add an odor value to the lures overall odor. Adding an odorless thickener will expand the lures volume but dilute the odor somewhat depending how much and what type of thickener you add.
If your concoction is gland based I would caution against using fats and greases to thicken as they will negate the gland odor over time.
Mr. hoho, Im a fan of using skunk oil...good stuff!
Regards
