I am sure... I understand that 30% of Jefferson county's population lives there...
I my thoughts are it will close and the 10th mountain will move elsewhere. NY's political folk have been such a friend to the republicans that the 10th mountain will be best suited elsewhere in a RED state....
Part of me doesn't blame them!!!! NY doesn't do anything for the Republicans or conservative party but bash them... Now Andy-Shumer-All the down staters are going to face the Music

The area was once very remote and rural, there was beautiful farmland, wood lands and wetlands. Housing and properties were affordable, most people knew each other, there was very little in the way of crime. Ft. Drum and it's expansion has made that go away. As people from this area, we've traded a simple and happy way of life for money. Ft. Drum employes hundreds of familes, it's made many people wealthy, and brought business to the area, there is no qquestion about that. But I drive around many of the old "back country' roads and I see new houses everywhere, posted signs where they never used to be, I read the local papers and see the crimes committed and I can't help but wish for the days before the expansion. I for one wouldn't mind a bit if it closed down. I won't miss Applebee's or the Salmon Run mall nearly as much as I miss the days before Ft. Drum expanded.

Wouldn't surprise me if it closed, Feds pump billions of $ into it , a handful of people strike it rich and then the Feds close it down. Isn't that the normal MO ?

isnt going to happen...ive got 11 years stationed there and still know and talk to many folks highly involved with everything "FT Drum", the economical ramifications alone would be irreversible and devastating to all of the north country, there is a reason they never deploy the whole division at once (they tried it once for haiti and had to send about a 3rd back due to the economical impact) they are still continuing to upgrade and build new facilities (completely unnecessary but thats the Govt).... the list of reasons is endless, and this is just part of the annual "big Army" draw back process, Ft Drum has been on the "chopping block" many times before (as is every post)... nothing but political hot air IMO
