Hi, I just joined this forum and am new to trapping. Over the last several weeks, I've been trying to trap a red fox using a live trap and using every kind of meat as a lure as you can imagine - both cooked and raw. This fox escaped from her enclosure that I had for her as she is licensed to be in my care. That's why I must get her back. She might also be pregnant. I thought perhaps a few of you may have some ideas from your experiences in trapping. I'm thinking a foot-hold trap may be more successful in catching her. However, I don't want her to get hurt from it. Are there newer designs for foot-hold traps that are more humane than the older designs?

Hi,
Chances of her entering a live trap are very very slim. I'd suggest a rubber jaw offset #2 or 1.75. They wont hurt her foot. Best of luck.

Sorry you lost your Fox. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Trapping season ended Feb.15th.Maybe you can call the DEC and ask if there is anything you can do without breaking the law or maybe contact a NWCO. Hope you get your Fox back.

Yea, I figured trapping season was done. However, it's still legal to trap on land I own, esp. if i'm targeting an escaped critter that belongs to me. I'm a licensed NWCO too!
As far as the recommended traps, where is the best place to get them?
