For the local fisherman here... perch and pickerel are biting hard at the ends of Canandaigua Lake. Limits are being taken regularly, and I'll be working on my 50 this evening and another 50 tomorrow morning, too. Y'all come get them while it's hot... plenty of room on the ice for everybody!

mark, there is 5" to 8" of ice left, depending on where you are. It's solid for now but the pressure seams are starting to show clear and after this weekend's rain I won't be out on it. Going back one more time at daylight, try to put a few in the bucket before we head over to Von's and see if he's in a talkative mood today.
kirk... same perch as always from the lake... small to medium size with an occasional lunker. Unfortunately, we don't have the Keuka - Seneca lakes scud-fattened giants here.

Those slobs are there Austin but caught a bit later by boat. My biggest perch caught have come from Canandaigua .

They are there, for sure, but as Von says you either need to be light footed on very thin ice or in a boat. They aren't there in huge numbers like Senaca has, but they can be found, if some one is willing to work for them. Last time I found them was about 10 years ago, and we had to chop through about 100 yards of 3" sponge ice to get the boat out there. . I'll wait a week and see if I can't catch a few from the ice free lake. My belly is a little large for me to be trusting late Ice.

well let me clarify then... the big perch are not accessible thru ice this time of year, they are deep water dwellers. Nor does this lake have the same percentage of jumbos to smaller fish like the lakes east of us do. So what's available now are the standard-run Can Lake perch, of which I pulled 25 out in 90 minutes this morning. The bite was slow, they weren't hitting aggressively (same issue last night) but when I swapped the spikes for sponge baits and added a drop of my "secret sauce" to it, they began hitting with gusto. maybe I'll go back tonight for the other 1/2 limit, soon as Von runs out of stories to tell at the Flatiron today
