Very impressive Mud. Like you said "another tool"...but I would hate for it to be my only tool. You sir, are a very adaptable critter for making that work out for you as well as it has.

Rick I enjoy foot trapping a couple weeks a year out of state..but not sure I would give up the cable for footholds if I had to choose just one.

Can you chime in on the other thread on here as to how many incidental catches you have, how you handle them or anything else you could add to the discussion on CR's?

nope, lol...
but for you tony, lol, 1 domestic canine in the last 5 years in a full entanglement scenario...safely released who proceeded to follow me for the next half mile.

Mr. Rockwood and zagman pretty much nailed it on that thread... I echo Mr Rockwoods concerns for the welfare of Domestic canines...I have no concerns regarding injuring a domestic... I do predator control for pheasant and upland clubs.. yje biggest worry I have is dealing with the hunters, not the dogs.

Wouldn't give up the cable because you believe it to be more effective? Or more enjoyable?
Mud, your voice would carry a lot of weight in that other thread. Your reluctance to join it...is understandable.

Your reluctance to join it...is understandable. Rick How to put this when it is so contrary to what is being said... Im typically more concerned for domestics when Im foot trapping then when Im snaring..just what it is I guess..Catchign a canine in a cable here and its just a matter of unleashing him..no foot damage or freezing temps to worry about. More effective or enjoyable?? hmm,,,its all enjoyable! Effectiveness is dictated by habitat. Open woods and open fields or sterile farmland I think Id be most effective with footholds....but hay fields, overgrown fields and hedgerows, I feel Id hold my own with about anyone with cable. Not being cocky, its just the nature of the technique. Who makes a really good snareman IMO..my background was as a diehard bowhunter...I was never the best shot or the craziest devoted hour wise guy...my strength was treestand placement and knowing exactly where Id shoot a deer..exactly. And I was a devoted predator caller for 15 years and I became to understand how predators move. That combination suits a snare guy well.

Very nice! Any chance you can post some pics of your mink sets when you start your line? Thought of you today...was pulling a couple reds off this retention basin and stumbled onto this..this will merit a couple snares in another week. Snow is only a couple days old and the tracks were nice to see!

Did you by chance follow those prints to see where and what they did?Would love to see more pics of mink snaring-also what i wouldnt do to use snares in the marshes i trap muskrats in-fox tracks everywhere-very easy to find tight pinch points for snaring!!!!

Didn't spend a lot of time there... worked til 7am and had two of these there, one on each side so I needed to make good time. There is really no real water there..its a drainage with just a tiny flow coming from the ground. I followed jus long enough to see how many snares Id need. I suspect similar to the reds theyre hunting mice and ground birds there.

nice job with the cable...you might have to give us some lessons in a couple years Dale, if you want to use CR's out your way it's likely going to be more than a couple of years...If you are planning to come up the Northern Zone then your estimate might be right... Gee that other thread about the legislation looked a little messy with all the talk about incidental catches...I agree with those that suggest an uninjured relatively easy release like Rockwood and Zagger stated...Of course I doubt Zagger will be using CR's on his Southern Zone line either...It's too bad, CR's would be as effective in the Southern Zone as they would be up north... BTW Mud, nice collection of fox!!! Nicely done....

Well, with land winding down, I was able to get one whopping otter set in in couple days back..filled my zone's quota within 48 hours...(the quota was 1...won the lottery for the tag),,,d@mn things are everywhere. Had one farmer I trapped for a couple years ago flag me down...his cows are calving and he lost one the other day to coyotes already...guess land will continue there for awhile if I can find the time to set it after this next forecasted coastal storm.
