Hi all,
Was just thinkin of past seasons when ya couldnt sell furs. No buyers. And if ya was lucky enough to find somebody to give 50 cents on rats and maybe $2 on mink coon n fox, u was lucky!!
The days of makin a living on a trap line are gone. Oh I'm sure there are some that argue that. Take the time involved. Put an hourly wage, fuel, wear n tear, ect. Your better off at a 40+hr a week job. Fur buyers are taking a chance. They invest thier money n time to make a little money too. I seen a fur buyer from Delevan lose everything as he paid $8 a rat, and couldnt get a $1 on them. just think what he lost on 10,000 rats. Not to forget the coon, fox, yotes, beaver.
Right now the fur market, Who knows?? Where its goin to go. I'm just happy to have somebody that will buy my furs. Don't get mad if ya dont get what u feel u should have gottin when u sell. I see guys on here complaining about low prices. Be happy ya can sell at all. It mite get worse? I post prices I get quoted from my fur buyer. I no some dont like Hoots. But he has been fair and honest with me. I dont get mad as he can only pay what he can pay. ask him, I never look to see what he paid until later. Im not only there to sell furs, or buy traps, I'm also there visiting a friend. Get to know your fur buyer. See how they want u to put up ur furs. I been at Griz shop on nights Hoots was there buying. Some on the stuff that comes in. and when somebody opens a bag of green fur they thawed and forgot next to the stove. It cleared the building out 1 night. I sell both put up n green hides. I dont expect top dolllar on green. and hope for the best on the put up furs. But I understand, I got paid for what my buyer can pay. This jmho. I not here to offend anyone. Or start an arguement. I just hopeing that ya all understand that trapping, n selling furs are what a buyer can pay n not get diapointed if ya dont get what ya expect. You dont have to sell if you feel ur not get fair prices. Its up to u. Good luck all. May ur traps b full!!
