My brother was out with the muzzle loader yesterday and found a mink den in a gravel bank. Tracks going to a pond and a stream. My question : Do male mink use dens or is this more likely a female? With the prices in the dumper I would rather try not to catch the females. If I set this den would a bodygrip in front of the den be the best bet or should I set the trails?

I may be wrong but Mink don't really have dens this time of year. Females will den up once they're bred but mostly they run a circuit and may have holes or logs or sheltered areas where they may layover for a short period of time before moving on. To answer your uestion, yes, it would be a good spot to set a trap as any traveling mink will most likely investigate this hole. I have better luck with leg hold traps on dry land that boddy grippers. I find mink sometimes refusing a body gripper. That's just me though.

I agree with Slyfox, theres no reason to think its a den so set it.
