It basically says that you can move fire wood no more than 50 miles from where it is cut. Which makes no sense, loggers can cut the trees and ship them across the country but you and I are not supposed to move firewood more than 50 miles. The property that I trap behind my house was logged 2 years ago, and they shipped beetle killed ash into the Carolina's to be sawed.

The 50 mile thing has been around for some time .The quarantine I heard about sounded like no, none ,not selling any or moving it anyplace.....

New York state as well as many states are being invaded by many invasive species that are destroying our forests wetlands and waterways .... not only as sportsmen but simply as residents we all need to do our part to stop what we can to protect what we have ...for every tree or animal or even insect we lose to one of these invaders has an effect to every other species ..... Emerald ash borer introduced from china in pallet wood to ports in the U.S is here and will destroy millions of ash trees in NY .... think its not a big deal take a walk through the woods and count how many green and white ash are in just a hundred yard square now close your eyes and picture them not there ..... its going to be a very bleak picture because you havent even included the asian longhorn or bronze birch borer and so on.... so when DEC passes a law or imposes a quarrentine its not to make things harder for you its to protect a vital piece of our environment for everyone.... ash wood infected or not dead or not should be cut and burned in place not transported or used for commercial firewood .... burn it in your house on your property if you want but do us all a favor and forget about selling it to joe blow in the next county over ....
