It's very risky to trap during hunting season. Posted signs don't stop thieves

Trail cam placed high and hidden well. Then a well armed fat man stepping out from behind a tree to surprise whoever the camera catches! I prefer to handle these kind of things personally, but that's just me.

True, Jim, true - posted signs are like locks... they only keep honest people honest. I've already related stories about having my own land posted, BY OTHERS, telling ME to "keep out!" I swear... no, really, I DO!!!

Sorry low lifes!! I have a locatiom i thought i was "losing" large coyotes out of my 1.75 4coils so i ordered some heavier rigs to hold them. 2 days ago i made 2 fresh flat sets. This morning i beleive i uncovered the shamefull truth. 1 coyote and one fox catch circle with boot tracks and blood!! To say im upset would be a huge understatement! Low lifes have to steal my fur because they cant catch enough of there own?

For the last few years with the higher fur prices, I did not have much trouble. This year they cleaned me out a few times.

Been lucky so far no traps stolen, last year though I had someone checking my rat traps for me.

Well, my theory ONLY, is that you don't just get an instantaneous start and stop to the guys who go trapping only when fur prices are high. I'm thinking that a LOT of them still geared up after hearing third hand about "high fur prices" from two years ago and they went out and set up, but aren't catching enough to recoup their "investment" so, depending on who they are, they're either 1) taking any and all fur they come upon, and/or 2) stealing traps to use or sell. Some also are out there who will never be trapping or maybe never even owned traps, but know the pulse and realize that a lot of guys are going to be laying steel and so that makes it easy pickin's for fur stealing and trap selling. Some lowlife scum will do anything for a buck... just ask their mothers.

I've had my share. I mark my traps. a file knotch in 1 or 2 diffent places. I have a stamp set, both letters and numbers. So I can stamp my id no. on the coil spring bases n underside of the jaw. Love it when I catch somebody when they holdin a trap with the same no on it as my trapping lic. I'm well known in the area, so I dont have too much problems. Its sad for a new trapper to come up to a set n trap n catch gone. Try to hide ur sets as best as ya can. Good luck

I also use number punches to put the last 4 numbers of my back tag number in the base plate of most of my traps. I hope most trap theives never know it's there, or think it's some thing the trap maker put there. Nothing like catching some slime ball red handed!
