Well, here we are a few days from trapping season and again the weather is throwing me a curve ball. Last year the swamps got light ice and 2' of snow, and now it's 5' of snow and I'm stuck in my house. We've been here two days now and there is no help in sight. Where is the National Guard they keep talking about on the news?

Don't worry, they sent in 20,000 troops but only one shovel! It might be a while, I hope you have TP and a weeks worth of eats in the house! They probably brought enough sand bags to rebuild the Hoover d@mn, but all their snow removal equipment was most likely sent to the Iraqi army!

To: The Residents of Western NY From: Comrade Gov. Andreyiv Cuomo
I have authorized the call-up of the NY Nat'l Guard to assist you. They are presently on a paid snow emergency training retreat in Aruba and are expected to return in late May, 2015. In the meanwhile, I have authorized the release of 1,250,000 sets of summer tires to help residents get around in the deep snow. These will only cost you a little more than twice what you would have paid at a dealership, and participation in this program is mandatory. You will be reimbursed by a 12% NY Income Tax increase that will be levied against you for the 2014 fiscal year. This is to facilitate the training enhancements for our hard-working Nat'l Guard personnel currently in Aruba for the duration of their stay. In addition, I have authorized the impressment of all past and current cast of Ice Follies due to their obvious experience in dealing with snow and ice. You can count on me to do whatever is expedient for my own personal and political gain and well-being. And besides, you know it's winter, and that this could happen, right? So it's your fault for not moving south. Have a nice season. I know I will.
- Comrade Governor Andreyiv Cuomo

More snow coming down to add to the 5'. One payloader went by this morning to clear a lane for emergencies. Snowing very hard again. Reports of power going out in Derby and Hamburg. Roofs starting to collapse. I think this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Will not run snowblower any more. Going to save my gas for the generator. Gotta feeling we're going to need it soon. Winter trapper where are you located? I am in Fisher Court in West Seneca. Arrowsmith

when you open a picture in your own computer, there should be a row of prompts along the top with drop-down arrows for selections. One of those to the far right should say "Open With" or something like that. If you click that link and it offers you to open picture with "Paint" or similar program, click that. Then you have the picture in an editing program where you can "resize" to 50% or 33% or whatever percent size to reduce. if by chance you have a picture program that opens yours with an option to "resize" then you can skip the "open with paint" step. Either way it is much simpler than this explanation makes it sound

I am so glad that we didn't get that down here in my part of the state. Only about 45 minutes south, but just far enough! Take care once that starts to melt!

Two words, or one, whatever: ROOF RAKE!!! or... ROOFRAKE!!! Seriously those roofs are in peril. I know, a roof rake isn't necessarily enough for that much snow but I wonder about the added weight of a person with a shovel up there being the tipping point. Be careful. Wish I was - nah, no I don't, although I DO wish I was closer to be of help, but then I'D be in the same boat! Or snowmobile... Good luck, guys. They're calling this storm and snowfall "epic" everywhere I read or see or hear about it, and I cannot come up with a better, more descriptive word. As Billy Fucillo would say, "HUUUUUUUUG-AH!!!!!"

Near 8' total in three days. Finally got a plow down the road yesterday afternoon and went to work 52 hours late. Just got my pick up dug out now. Start on the roof in the morning. Really...just physically whipped. Wife hurt herself shoveling, I'm afraid she tore a rotator cuff. Can you believe these chincy jap windshield wipers won't clear this powder??

My mom lives in Blasdell/Hamburg area...none of us (siblings) can get to her yet...88 years old and living in a ranch home alone and almost out of meds....waiting for the driving ban to be lifted and I got a ton of work getting her opened up, roof cleared and prepared for the flooding...she has a basement prone to flooding. Thank goodness for a neighbor who came over and cleared out her high efficiency furnace ducts, I owe him a 12 pack of high end beer. Still not plowed out there (roads) and a driving ban still in effect. Sis lives in Derby and she got 7-8 ft of snow, still no plowed roads. I got 1.5 feet last night and it feels like I got nothing compared to what some of these people got. Truly not a joking matter, 13 people dead now as a result of this crap. The flooding is going to be another disaster. I'm a conservative but will say that Poloncarz and even Cuomo have done a knock out job of giving attention to the area...not a time for taking sides but rather working together.

Mac, I just had about five paragraphs typed and erased it all.
I'll just say this: I was disappointed in the Erie County Highway Department. I am highly impressed with the speed and coordination of all the other entities that have gathered equipment and manpower here and done a hell of a job. And I hope you can get in to your Mom ok.

Our prayers with and for all of you. It's just about impossible to relate to what you're going through when we've got less than a foot, it's sunny, and temps are climbing while you've got not only the constant presence of dealing with it and the knowing what else is coming on top of it all. I'm sorry about my earlier post regarding Cuomo, it wasn't meant to diminish what you're going through or what's being done to help. I do know what it's like, I've lived through a couple of similar events, but memory seems to be selective to protect us sometimes and no, that's not to say that memories are the same as what you're living through in the present. I know it's a catastrophic event for you guys. My wife works at an insurance company and on Wednesday she took the initiative to proactively implement their CAT (catastrophic claims readiness program) to be ready to deal with losses and claims immediately. Usually people only tend to think of catastrophic events with hurricanes, flooding, and the like. Not many can relate it to massive snowfall. I just don't know what else to do that can be of help.

Got there today...quite the mess in Hamburg/Blasdell...and went through Orchard Park and East Aurora to get here, all very hard hit. Was a long day for this old body, the back will feel it tomorrow. But got Mom's meds and bread(her biggest worry was she was down to 1 slice of bread...otherwise not a complaint). Man, I get this much snow at my place every year by mid Jan - beginning of Feb....never this fast, no one ever has. Got to hand it to those cleaning up...roads were pretty d@mn good today, that's a ton of work to get that done in that amount of time. Kudos to the guys who put the hours in to make all of us be able to move and get where we need to go....quite a feat....

22 year old son got home last night from 4 day stint at Reserve Hose Fire Dept. Proud of him and the rest of the guys there! They got relieved by FDNY! The NYC guys are manning the stations to give our guys some much needed rest. They arrived with a ton of equipment, pumps for the flooding to come, and a mobile command unit. Raised everything in basement two feet or so in preparation of flooding they say is coming. I did not think to much of it until I saw the armoda of boats waiting to be put into service a the Emergency preparedness Center. May be time to start work on that ark...

I hope everything works out for all up there, and everyone is safe. A bunch of guys from my job joined with Yonkers FD Collapse Rescue and headed up to you guys yesterday with a big team of guys and a lot of equipment. Unfortunately I missed the opportunity to join them as I was far away when they put out the order that they were leaving withing the hour. Maybe next round. Stay safe and stick in there!!
