You will never know if you don't try. Why Boxes? Why not just dig pocket sets.? Blind sets could be an option also.

No one said anything against your boxes. If that is what you want then do it. I cant see what you have. and again .. If you don't try you will never know. also.. pocket sets can be made dry. nothing more than a horizontal dirt hole. Good luck..

Mole is a lot better mink man than I am but I do know one thing. You will never make a mink go whereYOU want him to go. I've tapped mink for a long time and never had much luck with boxes. I know that some guys have but I do better with edge sets and pocket sets. I do a lot of dry pockets with peat moss as a bedding and covering and do quite well with them. Muskrat leg for bait with a little Night Owl Brushfire. You asked the question and you got good sound advice. I'm sure that a lot of the other mink men on this site will chime in as well. Mole is right, you never know till you try. Also there should be an old thread from last year called just mink. I started it and some real good mink trappers on this site gave some great advice.

What type of trap would you guys use for a dry land pocket set? I'm just curious because of not being able to make a drowner set. Large hole with a 110 maybe?

personally have best luck with pocket sets along waterways, muskrat or rabbit for bait.have also used chicken and fish with good luck but not much luck with box traps.

Thank you Mr. Mole. I have lots of 1.5cs. Guess a 110 on a coons arm wouldn't work to well.

If you are set on using boxes, get them out there now! Place them right where you will be setting them. Let any passing mink get used to the new boxes, and they will eventually be overcome by their natural curiosity. Even better than boxes are hollow logs. If you don't have any where you would like to make a set, place one! Almost every critter will check them out, and the more natural look and smells of the critter filled log will likely get any passing minks attention. It also helps with Jonhy Sneekum. You will be best to be as close as you can to the water. I smell a new mink fanatic. Next thing you know you'll be wandering around in hip boots, smelling of mink must, and setting 110's on the bottom with long sticks!
