I want to set traps in some soft ground at a stream. I can easily push a 3?8 rod in about 2-3 feet. What would be a good length for the cable.

In soft ground/mud like that I would try 2 1/2' or 3'cable with a large stake end, maybe Black Hill Dirt Dogs. Put a couple in this week and see how they hold. Of course you will need a long stake driver.
