Joined the other day using the pay pal sign up. How long does it usually take for cards and suck to come, and more importantly the trappers post ? Need a lil something to take the edge off, October seems so far away !

I would think a card, decal and maybe the latest copy of Traplines (at minimum a card) sent to a member upon joining would be a good way to confirm back to a member that their payment was received vs just waiting for a TP to show up to know if they are a member or not. Seems to be a reoccurring complaint heard on here. If someone opts out of the TP how do they even know they're a member? We complain that only 10% of trappers join, maybe making the signing up process more desirable and faster confirmation back to the member would go a long ways towards gaining and retaining membership. If upon signing up for the first time a member finds it a hassle, how many will re-new when the time comes given their last experience with it. Just sayin.

Are we supposed to get a new card each year? This is my second year as a member. First year got a card, patch and the magazine. Re-upped in April, received nothing as of yet.

You'll receive your membership card the first business day following the third weekend after a national holiday within 6 months of the first Tuesday that follows the day you needed to show proof of membership. It's all there in black & white, didn't you read the rules? All kidding aside, I learned a long time ago that the people speaking up about the problems (I DID NOT SAY, "COMPLAINING," SO DON'T GET A PANTY WAD!!!) are in reality the people who are best fit to fill the role they don't know they're supposed to be serving in. So, maybe think of what YOU would do, and then not just join but take the lead in that position within NYSTA. Just a shot... I refer you to the "sliverbacks" mentioned in other posts, talking about the graying of the guard. Otherwise, you must put up with "Clark's Rule," as outlined above.

Nicely put tmc. As this is my second year in NYSTA, i'm still trying to figure things out. Like, how come there isn't a rep in Jefferson county? I have seen a bunch of trappers, some at fur auctions, some at trap auctions, so there is no shortage of people. In fact too many where i'm trying to trap. And seeings how my hair is almost all gray, I probably have all the same excuses as everyone else for getting too involved. That being said, If there was more communication locally and state wide it would help everyone. As you, I aim not to trying to offend anyone. I believe our sport has a place in this world and is important to our heritage.

I had nothing but trouble trying to apply online. I sent out several e-mails without response. Finally I joined at the Fenner Rondy, received a membership card on the spot. Haven't received anything since, I'm hoping to receive the September/October issue.
I also join NTA, no problems.

I just wanted to thank everyone who sent me pm's and complimented us for what we do within NYSTA. I've accepted the fact that these are thankless positions & the only time i hear anything on this open forum is when it's a gripe, but hey that's part of the job. it's nice to know some on here really appreciate what goes on behind the scenes & how dedicated we are.
membership processing is a time consuming endeavor & we came up with a solution to get me extra help so this doesn't happen again. i understand the new members not getting what they are supposed to right away can be a big drawback to renewing & we would like to keep you signed on.
the fact that there are posters on this thread that aren't even members really got my blood up...you know who you are...so i'm not going to mention any names...anytime you want to throw stones, please take it to a pm or see me at the convention & we can talk. i realize not everyone thinks that joining is going to make a difference but it does...same as voting.
again i apologize for being behind lately, but a solution is on the way.
thanks for joining...dale

I certainly hope my comments did not ruffle any feathers Dale, I do appreciate all the volunteer work that you and the other officers do for NYSTA. I did see some of the comments above being said before in other threads over time, and with the need for more members my suggestions were only in the best interest of NYSTA, mot meant to throw stones at any one individual. And if any help was/is needed in this area I would do so if asked to, I'm not one to point at such issues without offering solutions including my own time.

Hey Dale ...we used to have a 3 year membership.
If we brought that back, it would be less paperwork for you
