I was wondering on how to build a Skinning Gambrel, to make life a little cheaper.

We use a couple of pieces of cable with loops in the ends suspended from the rafters. Cheap and quick.

I picked up a deer hanging gambel at Gander Mountain awhile back in their "Bargain Cave". Serves most purposes. Best thoughts imlvt

That chain gambrel is just about perfect. I made one and use it for everything except rats and mink. Only issue I've had was lifting some of the heavier coyotes while looping it around their foot. Not a big deal but I did struggle a bit.

I always carry a piece of cable about 18" long with a slip loop on each end. I make them up out of the same cable stock I make my cable stakes from. I can hook a critter around the hind feet and then sling the cable over a busted limb, my trailer hitch, or anything that will hold. They weigh just about nothing and will coil up in almost any pocket.
When I'm running my line on the ATV I will sometimes stop and skin a few critters if my box is getting too full. It makes skinning a lot easier for me (I have a bum arm), but I have made up some for a few of the guys I coon hunt with and they love them too.

On coyotes....from above with difficulty lifting/putting chain around feet....
I use a big hook on the end of my chain/cable that drops from the ceiling and a big round ring on the gambrel.
This way, the gambrel comes OFF the chain from the ceiling.
Take your gambrel DOWN to the coyote, hook it up, THEN lift the coyote and gambrel UP to your chain....place big ring on gambrel onto the hook.
Easy....Peasy.....
I even do this on my power puller as it takes too long to have the machine unwind to take the gambrel all the way down to the coyote. So, I take my gambrel off the machine since it is set up as above.....and then lift gambrel and coyote up to hook.
