Picked up a dozen rusty montgomery 1.5 coilsprings last night which are now sitting in a vinegar water bath. Thought they would be a good pocket trap for mink and coon. Springs are still very strong, plan on center swiveling the chain. Should I cut the big ring off the end of the chain and attach a swivel or attach a swivel right to the ring ?

After getting the rust off them they say "STEP DOWN" on the pan. Springs are strong but they are a bugger to set, I needed to really mash the levers and jaws down to get the dog over the jaw. Dipped them in a 50/50 mixture of flat brown rustoleum and mineral spirits, this seemed to coat the traps well, but will need more than 1 coat. The traps set a little easier after being cleaned and dipped. With zero pan tension I think they will make a good mink trap.
