I just got off a half-day float on the West River. Water levels are perfect... up to the max pool that the marsh complex was a decade ago. Saw rats swimming everywhere, all over the place. A reminder of how good it used to be. But come November, the pool level will be down at least two feet lower for the sake of multi-million $$ cottages and lakefront storm damage. The marsh will go from ideal perfect today to the same dry mud-pit it has been for too many years now.
If mankind would just leave things to hell alone, it'd be a much better world around us.

... but the good news is, they are absolutely crushing the bullheads lately and big rainbows in the creek as well. The guys who focus on trout are having the best season ever in recent memory... too many 6lb to 10lb fish to count. On my way out of the launch I saw a local guy who fishes 24/7/365 setting up at the launch for bullheads. Said he caught 100+ there last night, so I'm headed back to join him at dusk myself. The fishing here remains good as ever

Haven 't seen one rat swimming or road killed round here but seen a couple mink and kitten coon are coming Outta the dens. Austin, I have over 50 pounds of bullhead fillets all breaded and frozen ready for this weekends Spring Kemmer Cur Hunt. The boys that show up Friday night will be eating perch, blue gill and crappies.

I read about your bullhead exploits, Von... your spots over there are better than mine here!

Ya need hard south wind to make it happen! Last Thursday I caught a hundred in 2 1/2 hours. Busy this week but if we get the wind I'll give ya call.

The streams did look nice on my drive up to the former Watertown Ames parking lot for the FHA fur pickup yesterday. Found it easily with your directions. Did you make it over there Bob? I was there early along with my dog, Molly, riding shotgun. Good turnout of trappers despite the harsh winter and late thaw.

I was there early along with my dog, Molly, riding shotgun. Good turnout of trappers despite the harsh winter and late thaw. I "Fire Saled" my Last Quantity of Rats and a couple of Rk'ed Mink on Saturday Afternoon to Father Rockwood for a Jug of Bad Whiskey and a Moth-Eaten Hudson's Bay Blanket. Therefore, there was no need to make the trip to Watertown to meet Toby Edwards for the FHA Pick-up. In All Seriousness, Rocky gave me a Fair Price for my Remaining Muskrat and now I can use the $$$ for immediate needs. Glad you had a Nice Ride up there, Found the Pickup Point Easily, and saw some Good Trapping Scenery on the way. w
