last week of season silverfox and I teamed up to float trap some rats on the mighty black,111 in seaven checks ,we had a challenging week with the rising water, current, wind,oh and did I mention the iceburgs, and one very interesting morning launching the boat .I can't say enough about his work ethic,he carried his weight and then some.Couldn't have done it without him.He has a positive attitude and he is a good trapper. He took a lot of nice photos hope he shares some with you guys.oh I forgot to mention we had some beautiful weather this week also.

Nice catch Guys and great way to succeed in spite of what Mother Nature threw your way.
Any Photos of Your Float Setups to share with us ?
What did you do to for your anchoring or tethering set up to compensate for Rapidly fluctuating water Levels on the Black River ?
What did you use for bait and/or Lure on your floats ?

Nice catch Guys and great way to succeed in spite of what Mother Nature threw your way. Any Photos of Your Float Setups to share with us ? What did you do to for your anchoring or tethering set up to compensate for Rapidly fluctuating water Levels on the Black River ? What did you use for bait and/or Lure on your floats ? w didnt take any pics of the floats Walleyed (and already dis assembled), but couldnt be any more basic, just a flat board, and your trap of choice on top, wired to the bottom, floats tied about 3-4' above water (about 6-8 ft tether to allow changing water depths) in flooded timber or over hanging trees and adjusted daily dictated by water conditions, and parsnip for bait, location like any other trapping is everything, the high water flooding the timber(as much as 3-4 feet over night) displaces the rats (completely submerges their bank dens) causing them to scamper to anything floating, i dont think this technique would work well during normal water conditions and is unique to spring flooding in the black river (and any other waterway that floods over its banks)...just my opinion.....and def isnt for the weak or faint hearted, the current and floating debris is no joke!!! (we tried rubbing fresh gland from previous days catch on floats but didnt notice any "preference for those floats from the rats) as my partner Newfox1 says about it "i'd like to make it more complicated but i cant"

This makes me jealous....I'm hoping to start with a slow trickle soon. The rivers are opening up fast down here, the problem now is no water, I'm sure that will change quick when it warms up!
Here' hoping you get a warm up.
