I'm getting into putting up fur for this next season and started to research around for the items I need. I was looking at either the Necker 600 or a Post knife for fleshing canine & coon. I see that it seems to be sort of like a Chevy / Ford debate on which one is better and I'm not looking to debate in this regard, but was wondering if being a newbie is one easier to get started with then the other? Also I can't seem to find wood boards made specifically for coyote/fox, is this something that you have to make yourself? Thanks for any advice or help

The fleshing knife that you chose you will have to master that one. I use a Necker and it serves we well. Like anything else practice is the name of the game. as far as wooden stretchers I find them at conventions. there are usually a lot to chose from .

I use a necker but have thought about trying post to see how it goes. Most supply houses have the wood boards you are looking for although most charge extra shipping for the larger boards .Renno's and F&T are two supply houses off the top of my head.

I prefer a thinner blade and I use a caribou fleshing knife which I believe is made by post. Very easy to sharpen and holds an edge well. But I also own a necker. Once I bought the caribou I haven't used the necker. Another thing I like about the caribou is that it has more of a knife style handle compared to the round handles a necker has my hands don't slip as much when putting up greasy coons.

I use a post and love it. barrowed a necker from a friend one time, don't have anything bad to say about it. The post knife holds an edge very well.
