I especially like the comment from Serge regarding waiting until critters prime before jumping out in the field on opening day. This was a good talking point for me to reinforce to my son about quality verse quantity. Dino, dont get fooled. I can show you my fur check details from NAFA. I have $69 averages on Red Fox, $35.00 on coon and $55 on coyote. All were caught the first two weeks of season. Trapping at your sons age should be about getting out doors and learning about the animals, and it's a whole lot easier in the early fall then after deer season in the dead of winter. Let the boy start day 1, the difference in price negilable and the experience much more enjoyable in the early fall. Just my 2cents ;D

early fur is always more valuable than late fur... given a choice, buyers will always take slightly under-prime goods over rubbed and shedded past-prime furs

Stay where you are. I'm sending over a Catholic priest from Saint Matthews on Kinne Street to perform an Exorcism on you and rid your Body of the MARSHRAT DEMON !!! walleyed

And No one can Beat Austin Passemonte; "NEW YORK SUPER TRAPPER" and "Man of Steel" to the Rat Marshes. He'll fly overhead wearing his Bright Red and Yellow Super Cape and Tight Blue Leotards with his Super Powered X-RAY VISION spotting all the key rat runs from On-High where he will Carpet-Bomb Gang-Set all the key locations and lay waste to the Rat Marshes of Central and Northern New York. No Mere Mortal Trapper can compete with Him !! We're all Doomed to Rat Seasons of Mediocrity. Might well sell the last of your #160's to him now. walleyed

The fall season is looking bleek already........not too many "baby rats" so far. The late spring will be a factor.

tell you what, walleyed... letting strep throat go inflammed for a week was kryptonite. They tell me that's what Jim Henson of muppets fame died from. I can easily believe it, now

You guys are truly entertaining...I agree with Walleyed that the seasons should not be shortened resulting in less trapping opportunities for trappers. Many trappers have vacation, work/time, and family constraints and need the flexibility to maximize their time afield. Lets hear more season date opinions from the rest of the usually silent majority. Thanks, Bill

Being from the south eastern portion of the state. Nov. 10 start, some of the early caught rats are thin skinned, depending on where they are caught. some of the mink are still blue.
I'm OK with the season as it stands. I just wish my NYSTA county rep. would didn't try to trap every rat in a fifty mile radius of me the first three weeks of the season! LOL

I'm from 8F and one of the, usually silent majority. I'm fine with the start dates here, I would really like to have our water season extened till March 31st.
