Where I live we now have enough snow on the ground to make it hard for me to walk and has all but shut down much movement of the critters.Snow needs to settle or crust over.In reading the hound forums it looks like they are really having trouble finding a track to run the last few days and have gone to free casting in the thickets in order to find anything to run.

I spend some money on a quality set of snowshoes yesterday. What a pleasure to walk on top of the 26" of snow instead of through it. I will check my trail later today to see if any fox or coyote tracks follow on top of the snowshoe tracks. I had dumped several hundred lbs. of beaver carcass along the trail several weeks ago but nothing has touched them since this deep snow. Perhaps an easy route will encourage more travel.

Just got back from a long loop through my property that backs up to a 100 acre parcel of state land. Virtually nothing but deer and rabbit. Usually loaded with yote, fisher and a few fox. Very surprised not to cross any fisher sign. Yotes seem to be running the roads as I have had tracks up my walk way and back to the road. Walked both ways and never found where they either entered or exited the roadway.

I have not been hearing the coyotes at night since the snow came. I went out last two knights on my porch with a call all i heard was silence i thing the yotes went south for the winter. Im keeping my sets out they will have to start moving one of these nights.

Trapped here for close to 20 years...always been a honey hole for deep snow trapping reds...not a track...they normally cross from pine thicket to pine thicket across that trail...I even checked the canal from a few overpasses to see what fox have been moving...almost no sign whatsoever... Not that I am catching anything, but they started moving pretty good around here last night.I didnt have to walk any farther than the end of the driveway to find tracks.Set out two within walking distance from the house along with a weasel box.Found five beds along a trail, sure would be nice to set a cable restrant, but that looks to be a long ways off at least for around here.

A pair of reds came up my driveway again last night. Think it's about time to put a treat out for them.
Looks like we may be back in business later this week. We have some warm weather and possibly some rain showers on the way....

I have been watching the last two days where the fox are traveling right in the water on warm spring runs rather that travrel in the snow.Might set one of them this afternoon.

Here are two sets I made yesterday. The traps are set 1 foot in front of the hay off to the left. The bunch of grass on the right put fox urine the left one I used coyote gland lure. I'll post more pics of this set today. Attachments:
