Don't need a fleshing board or even a fleshing tool for muskrats just a flat surface and a big kitchen spoon In any case, yes, way too low on a coyote and in my opinion, seeing as that you're a young trapper, I think that whomever you sold to should have been a little more generous with the advice on how to properly put up fur....Where do you live??

Tman. food for thought.. Does your school have a wood and metal shop? Thought you might be able to make a board and maybe a gambrel for skinning..Not everyone has the tools around the house, just a thought. Made my 1st ones in shop class.

That would have been great! I have never had anyone to teach me anything about trapping, i basically just educated myself from asking questions on here, from all the great people on here willing to share knowledge with me, having a mentor would have been great..

Congrats on the coyote!
I was going through the shed tonite and have 19 regular super stakes I don't use anymore so you can have them. I cut off the old cable and will send you all the parts to make them up. All you will have to do is assemble them. To drive them you can grind the end of a rebar stake so it fits in the head of the cable stake.
In general, guys try to pull out the cable stakes so they can be re-used. Sometimes you can't but you should try. You would need to dig them up or get a stake puller of some sort.
Now you can put some more money into fur handling equipment.
PM me your address and I'll send them out in the next few days.

as wayne said with the rats at least skin them & try to flesh if even on the metal stretcher as the price the buyer gave you was poor & with a little work you can make ggod money to buy the right tools, in weedsport you have george warren at the fur shop buy the river on 34 he should be willing to help you out & has fur handling supplies there also. good luck & read the archives on this site to help with fur put up as it helped me when i started.

Well i am most deffinitly going to tan it, and for 35$ that sounds good so i'll look into it. I actually to the yote last night to sell it and the guy wouldn't take it on the carcass and if i skinned fleshed and stretched it he would give me 8 dollars for it, so i figured that was a sign to get it tanned ;D I would give you $35 for it in the round. But being your first one getting tanned is a better choice . Congrats
